Overview

In November 2018, a group of like-minded business professionals established myBIZ SL. This association is dedicated to creating a platform where members can network, exchange knowledge, and share their expertise and experiences. It aims to promote professionalism, ethics, and best practices, ultimately fostering growth and excellence in business.

Registered with the Registrar of Companies as a company limited by guarantee, myBIZ SL (or myBIZ for short) was officially launched in December 2018 at the Ramada Hotel. Mr. Fazal Abdeen served as the Founding President during the launch event.

Management

myBIZ is governed by a Board of Directors, which forms part of the 12-member Executive Committee (ExCo) led by a Chairman. A core group within the ExCo is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of myBIZ, supported by a dedicated team of full-time staff.

Secretariat

Initially, myBIZ was located at 36 Haig Road, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4. However, in February 2022, the Secretariat moved to a more spacious facility at 15 Milagiriya Avenue, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4, to accommodate growing activities and provide better parking facilities. This new location offers a tranquil environment amidst a bustling area, with convenient access from both Marine Drive and Galle Road.

Facilities

The myBIZ Secretariat occupies a two-story building with six air-conditioned offices. Four of these offices are sub-let to various businesses and NGOs. The facility includes a Board Room and a Hall available for hire, which can accommodate up to 40 people. These spaces are frequently used for meetings, seminars, and workshops by companies, associations, and NGOs. Additionally, there is co-working space available for companies.

A key advantage of the myBIZ Secretariat is its ample vehicle parking space. The building is situated on a road wide enough to allow parking on both sides. For more information about renting the Board Room or the Hall, please contact the Secretariat

Business Programs

myBIZ is rolling out four key business programs, each designed to support and enhance the professional development and networking opportunities for our members:


myConnect Business Networking

This program offers a platform for members and guests to meet in person twice a month. These networking events foster relationships among business owners, leaders, and professionals, creating opportunities to strengthen connections and access new opportunities.

Knowledge Sharing

In this program, myBIZ engages experts and specialists to share their knowledge, ideas, and insights with our members. Past topics have included the Stock Market, New Tax Rules, Digitalizing Businesses, and Business Entry into the Saudi Market. These sessions have been held in Colombo, Kandy, and Kurunegala.

Trade & Investment Promotion

This program includes hosting trade delegations, such as the recent delegation from Pakistan, at our Secretariat. Future plans involve organizing trade missions to potential destinations like the Maldives, Turkey, and Malaysia. Additionally, investment promotion will be facilitated through one-on-one interactions and formal forums where business promoters and investors can meet. The program will also support start-up ventures.

Provision for Chamber Services

Over the coming year, myBIZ plans to establish a chamber services window to offer members services related to trade and industry, similar to those provided by other chambers. This initiative aims to further support our members' business needs.

  • 2018 In the first quater the first meeting was held among the founder members followed by several meetings. People who inspired and addressed the group at these meetings were Messrs Azmi Thassim and Reyaz Mihular.
